Rock N’ Roll Red.

There’s nothing quite like rock n’ roll red lipstick.

Debbie Harry and Gwen Stefani red.

Commitment red.

Don’t leave it too late in life to try serious red lipstick. It’s never too late for most things but with this look that is not so.

There will come a day when your lips look at the tube and say ‘Hell No’.

It’s a carpe diem beauty point.

There is real grift in red lipstick – It’s two parts glamour and one part hustler.

The trick is in the choosing the right shade and learning how to nail your appplication.

If I can, you can – so lets!

Nailing Your Red.

I asked Napoleon Perdis Make-Up Artist, Anna Papadopoulos for her top tricks on buying and applying.

1. Find the perfect shade for your skin type. As a general rule fair skin needs cool tones. Unless your fair with red hair in which case you need a touch of orange in the base to warm up the pink in your skin.  Warmer to olive skins can handle a little pink or rose in their red which counteracts the blue in their skin. Olive (and spray tanned skin) needs red that is almost orange to throw golden tones on the skin. Nothing with blue or pink in it. If you’re not sure what suits you – take the time to visit a counter and work through the rainbow until you find The One.

2 .When you apply a red lipstick and are unsure about it, keep it on for about ten minutes. In this time, glance at yourself in the mirror a few times. You might find that the lipstick shade has grown on you. Sometimes it’s not the lipstick but the overall shock at wearing such a loud look.

3.If you are not confident wearing a full-out red lipstick but want to experiment, you can alway trial it as a stain on the lips . Just use your finger to tap lightly into your lips working up the colour until you’re happy with the look.

4. Always team your red lipstick with a matching lip liner. And do as Napoleon does and line the lips last – not first!. This creates a wax barrier around the lipstick so there is nowhere for the lipstick to escape or bleed – so it equals longevity and no mistakes.

5. Make the lip the hero. If you’re going to dress your lips with a bold red, it’s a good idea to tone down the rest of the features. Keep eyes defined and polished and your skin creamy and neutral.
