Less is Always More.

Less is Always More.

I remember when Sam Wagner first launched her label SamBag – it was a simple, capsule range of bags and shoes.

Almost two decades on and the brand has expanded to include everything from the best ballet flats and totes to jewellery and great wardrobe basics.

I went in store this week to edit the Spring/Summer 2013 collection which is full of wearable, wantable clothes.

Pale Denim & Gold.

Such a beautiful colour combination – washed out denim and faded gold.

Festive, chic and lovely with a tan.

This metallic twin-set is your ideal Christmas season buy because it will work with everything in your wardrobe. Treat the cardigan like a blazer and throw it over your shoulders with a black dress, t-shirt and pants, singlet and jeans.

The camisole is an easy way to add a hint of sparkle to a black skirt, black pants, black suit.

Or wear it with pale denim…

One Dress Two Ways.

This versatile dress could be styled a thousand ways – belted, jacket, leather jacket, demin jacket, ankle boot….

But for the purposes of this post I’ve done beach to bar. This is a superb multi-tasking tunic – made of very light silk – one of those easy pieces that every woman should own.

It comes in three colours – blue, lilac, coral – you may need all of them.

Sambag stock a great range of jewellery – really cool necklaces and bracelets.

IN STORE BUY: Annie Campbell Antique Gold Necklace, $200 (in store only); Venna Bracelet, $250 (in store only).

The Perfect T-Shirt.

My obsession (and collection) of white v-neck t-shirts is well documented.

Regular readers know I am a big fan of Bassike t-shirts and now I’m a big fan of these. Big fan.

Sheer, soft cotton, perfect sleeve length and love the little pocket detail.

Black, white and marle grey – you’ll love them too.

Navy & White Spots.

Navy is one of my favourite colours because it’s so versatile – sharp and fresh at the same time. All the time.

Navy and white polka dots are a more feminine version of the nautical stripe – classic, crisp – crowd pleaser.

These shorts (skorts) are super-light and could be worn more casually with a t-shirt and flats or dressed up with a heel and a v-neck as I have here. I like navy on navy and this sweater is perfection – wide v-neck, skinny sleeves. It’s very sheer so you’ll need to layer a camisole underneath (or dark bra).

When you’re wearing polka dots, keep it simple- too many colours and it tips you over into frilly and girly.

CLICK TO BUY: Sambag Geneva Lurex Top in Navy, $180, Sambag Gemma Lurex Cami in Navy, $120Sambag Toni Polka Dot Culottes, $150.

So delicate and understated. Phone, gloss, keys – done.

CLICK TO BUY: Sambag Karly Metallic Foil Leather Clutch in Pewter, $220.

The Beach Hoodie (Part 2).

What can I tell you…

I love a beach hoodie and I love French Blue – so this one had me before I walked through the front door of the store.

These hooded cover-ups are as practical as they are pretty – you can toss them over a wet cossie and end up dry, wear them from the beach to the shops and they keep you warm.

You could also buy a matching one for your daughter…

Paula, I adore these posts but every single time I look at one I get all distracted looking at your wedding rings! I’m sure you get many comments about them. They are just magnificent!

  • PaulaJoye

    Sportsgirl but last season.

  • Helen

Hi Paula, you look incredible! I’m looking at buying the shorts online and not sure of the size? If you don’t mind me asking, how tall are you? so I can work out sizing. thank you!

  • PaulaJoye

    Hi Helen
    Thank you!
The shorts are generous so I would stick with your true clothing size.
    I’m 5″8.5 – they’re fabulous.

  • Maya

Paula. you’ve gotta get yourself into more french blue – your eyes positively jump out of that photo! Love the faded gold & light denim combo too.

  • Lauren

You’re a dream in French blue, it’s definitely your colour.

  • Karen

Question Paula, best casual shorts these Sambag short/skorts or the whites ones from witchery you tried on the other day??

  • SJM

Hi Karen, there are an almost identical pair in Sportsgirl again this season. They come both in black and tortoiseshell (with nude arm). Dead ringers for Karen Walker’s ‘Super Dooper’ sunglasses but scaled down lens size.

    Cheers, Sam

  • SJM

Whoops – sorry, intended for Sarah!
