Summer Wardrobe Staples.

Summer Wardrobe Staples.

I’ve been asked many times this year to post examples of more casual, weekend looks – been a little slack with that, sorry.

That changes now because this post is full of easy, multi-purpose, school/pool/park/beach/BBQ pieces that move easily between corporate and casual.

Here is my edit of the Witchery Spring/Summer 2013 collection – full of great summer staples.

Permission to go nuts.

The Black Maxi.

If a maxi works then it is magic.

This black version works because it has an almost straight cut, not too much fabric and a generous scooped neckline.

Silver and black is making a return this summer and lots of the jewellery I’m wearing is from the Witchery OCRF range which donates much needed funds to Ovarian Cancer Research.

Guilt-free shopping – so stack those bangles.

Navy & White.

Nothing says summer quite like a nautical stripe and crisp white.

This cotton knit is super sheer and light – yes, wear it over a cossie – and these shorts are a tailored take on the classic running short. Super, super cool.

I’m obsessed with hats – this one is Havana cool. A Trilby.

CLICK TO BUY: Witchery Fine Stripe Jumper in Navy/White, $99.95Witchery Luxe Sporty Shorts, $89.95; Witchery Cream Trilby (416072), $39.95.

The Lace Dress.

You know that I am all about a classic when it comes to dresses and lace is absolutely that – delicate, sophisticated, forever.

I own two lace frocks – one cream, one black – but what I love about this one is the colour. The aqua marine puts a nice twist on the traditional shape and fabric.

Yes it’s screaming: “Take me out somewhere fabulous” but I like the idea of it at the office with a cropped leather jacket too.

CLICK TO BUY: Witchery Lace Peplum Dress in Jade, $289.95; Witchery Evening Chain Clutch in Silver, $79.95.

The Frock Alternative.

Remember pants? I forget them all the time.

Dresses are the default during the festive season but there’s nothing cooler than a great pair of ankle skimming black pants.

I’ve pulled them back with an oversized rose gold knit and rose gold cuff – simple, comfortable and appropriate at any event.

Day or night.

Even with a flat.

CLICK TO BUY: Witchery Lurex Pullover in Pink, $99.95Witchery Split Hem Crop Pant, $129.95; Witchery Rose Gold Cuff, $39.95; Witchery Pitted Crystal Ring in Silk, $19.95.

The Throw Over.

Everyone needs this kind of dress.

Non-crush, non-shape, non-trend, non-short, – the throw-over.

This is literally the dress that you can shrug on over anything and then go do anything in it.

I put it with this scarf as a reminder that a) even though it’s warm you should still wear a scarf and b) isn’t it amazing what a touch of colour can do.

CLICK TO BUY: Witchery Tie Back Beach Dress, $99.95Witchery Summer Soft Scarf in Sunset, $19.95Witchery Stretchy Snake Bangle, $49.95.

Coral Pink.

Anyone can wear this colour pink – anyone. It’s not neon, not cupcake, not candy – it’s coral which means it’s flattering.

Dress up a simple outfit like this – shorts and a sloppy sweater – by using head-to-toe-colour. The single hue makes it look sleeker and if I see anything colour blocked ever again I’m not liable for what comes next.

Tan and coral is like peanut butter and chocolate – perfection – and remember the bigger the bag the smaller you look.

CLICK TO BUY:  Witchery Fine Boyfriend Crew in Muck, $89.95Witchery Poly Double Scoop Cami in Nude, $29.95Witchery Welt Pocket Short in Sorbet, $69.95Witchery Multi Purpose Belt in Tan, $49.95; Witchery Handbag in Ginger (412062), $199.95; Witchery Tennessee Shades in Tortoise, $69.95.

The number of striped tops I own is borderline ridiculous, however I just purchased this knit yesterday and now that I’ve seen it on you I absolutely know it was the right thing to do. Hold on while I go back for those shorts.

    Immaculate as always, Paula.

  • Neha

    Flawless. All of it.

  • Emma

Bring on summer. You look amazing in coral pink – love every single outfit.

  • Tania

I’m loving these posts Paula. It’s accessible fashion, and I love how you put it all together. Love that you’re supporting Aussie designers/shops too.

  • Barb Fisher

I just want to be at the beach or by the pool on summer hols when I see you in that striped dress. And that scarf? Genius!

  • Marijana

Love this inspiration. I went yesterday shopping at Witchery. I wanted to buy every single thing from there. I ended up buying a navy dress and a top in the coral pink colour(well and a few more items). It’s gorgeous!

  • Rochelle Hurst-Hammond

You look sensational in the striped dress and orange scarf. Slick ponytails are perfect on you. Off to Noosa for a week, inspired!

  • Jane

  • Kirsty

    L.O.V.E it.

  • kattie

Oh you look amazing in it all! I would look like a hooker (while still stylish) in those dresses with the amount of clevage I’d be showing .. I’d love to have smaller boobs :(

  • PaulaJoye

    Hi Jess

If you mean the silver ones then they’re Prada (old) but yes they are the perfect shape. The Black are Witchery.

For investment sandals check Gucci, Bally and Prada.

    That’s Tania.
I always try to support the local market and give readers a good balance between high and low.
Thank you for taking the time to write.

  • PaulaJoye

It was. It’s a winner and you do need the shorts.
    They’re pretty fab.

  • Jess

I thought so! Thanks Paula =) BTW tried on everything above at witchery yesterday and bought the lot! X

  • PaulaJoye

    Do it!

  • PaulaJoye

    Big Boobs are fabulous.
    Viva la big boob.
And I probably could have done with a bra.

  • PaulaJoye

    Yes! Unreal effort!.

  • Champagne4lulu

I went on a big witchery spree recently and got the black maxi and a short version (ahem… Amongst several more items!!) :) it really is a perfect dress – can be dressed up or down! Next on my list is the pink outfit and striped dress. I hate my legs in shorts tho and they hate me but I’ll give it a go! Thanks for these :)

Can you do an accessories round up? Classics, essential, hi/low end?

  • Samantha

I have never shopped at witchery but went in after reading this post and purchased a few items including the striped maxi. But what do you recommend I wear underneath it as the arm holes are large and just a bra underneath looks a little funny?

  • PaulaJoye

    Hi Samantha

I have these cropped singlet from Supre in every colour. They have a good singlet version too.

  • Jane

I wish witchery still had the stripe beach dress. Perfect for my trip to Thailand. If you still have it Paula, I’ll buy it off you?
