What I Wore (Melbourne Cup).

What I Wore (Melbourne Cup).

I know, I know it wasn’t colour. This look would have been more appropriate for Derby Day but I’ve never been one for rules. At the race track I like to feel comfortable and look classic (with a fashion edge).

With a heavy work schedule and shonky looking skies – this outfit ticked all my boxes – and let the record show that this year I did Melbourne Cup with carry-on only.

The Outfit.

White silk shirt from Zara, black taffeta shorts from Chanel.

The Anklet.

Always like to do something a little out of the box on Cup Day and this year it was bells on my toes (ankles). Picked this gold double jingeler up in Dubai.

The Hat.

Found this hat at a Rolling Stones memorabilia store in Harajuku, Japan. Bit of Keith. And a bit of Jen who looked beautiful in Toni Matecveski.

The Bag.

Cuff was Yves Saint Laurent (2002) but the bag is from Sportsgirl (2012). CLICK TO BUY

Hi Paula, you look very stylish. Great jewelly, figured you would have bought some pieces in Dubai :) Kudos to you for packing carry only !

  • Corina

Perfection! Simple, elegant and funky. Not an easy combo to pull off! LOVE that shirt and the cuff x

  • Al

    The nails please?

  • Cindy

Sorry Paula but this outfit highlights the difference between Sydney and Melbourne fashion for me.

  • PaulaJoye

    Hi Cindy
I take that means you don’t like it?
    And that you’re from Melbourne?
I am very bad at race wear Cindy – so I always try and just stick to what I know.
Leave the colour to the pros.

The VRC specifies shorts are unacceptable racing attire! Lucky you snuck through ;)

  • Cindy

Hi Paula – no I actually love it – but it is definitely not racewear, no offence intended!
(I’m from Shepparton 2 hours from Melbourne).

  • Janelle Malone

Paula, I was actually admiring what you wore! I think you looked cool and the hat…Brilliant!

  • bridget

You look amazing as always Paula. Classic and elegant. Love the hat and your makeup is flawless. Could you do a video on you applying your makeup for everyday and going out? B X

  • PaulaJoye

    Will do Bridget.
    And thank you.

Love the shirt! Is it a recent buy?

  • Zoe

Hi Paula – I love these black heels which seem to make many appearances in ‘What I Wore’ – you have probably said where they are from previously but could you please tell me again? Thanks!

  • Al

Thank you! Happy weekend. Al x

  • Kylie

I agree, its there for a reason – not acceptable

  • PaulaJoye

    Hi Zoe
    They’re YSL.
Original Tribute – the new version coming around March – is pretty similar to this design.

    I’d hang out for them.

  • PaulaJoye

    Hi Adrijana
    It is – Zara Dubai.

I am a bit disappointed in your outfit choice for Melbourne Cup day Paula. As you rightly say, black and white is for Derby Day and shorts are so far from the etiquette that is expected track side on this day of fashion. I look to you for fashion inspiration but not this time. Considering your role as a stylist, and all of the outfits you would have available, I’m afraid you let me down. Brand names don’t really float my boat, as much as good old fashioned taste.
